Maggie Grace, born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September the 21st of September 1983 in Worthington Ohio, is an American actor. She is best known for her roles as Shannon Rutherford and Kim Mills and Kim Mills on ABC's Lost TV show. After her parents' divorce her parents separated, she moved to Worthington Ohio in order to settle at Los Angeles. She was struggling to get by at the time she landed her first role in acting in Rachel's Room's main character. Following her win of an Young Artist Award in 2002 for her portrayal in Murder on the streets of Greenwich of 15 year young Martha Moxley as a murder victim, Grace went on to win. Grace Rutherford was the main actress in Lost for its first two seasons. In 2004 she received the Screen Actors Guild Award with all of the ensemble. Leaving the series Grace wanted to appear more prominently in film having starred opposite Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. The role she played was Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken the year 2008) in Suburban Girl and the Jane Austen Book Club. The actress reprised her character for Taken 2 (2011) and Taken 3 (2013).She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland, a contemporary adaptation from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace performed the role of Shannon once more in the show's finale episode, as well as two additional episodes. In 2013 she appears in Season 6 of Californication. She plays Faith as a girl who is a muse for the stars, and draws the attention to Hank Moody (David Duchovny). As a part of the Gyllenhaal Family she's the younger sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She started her acting career when she was a teenager, playing small appearances in her father's films and appeared together with her brother in famous cult classic Donnie Darko (2001). In 2002, she starred as a character on Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. She also appeared on Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal received nominations for a Golden Globe Award in both the drama Sherrybaby (2005) and the romantic comedy Secretary (2002). Both films were critically acclaimed. In the wake of several successful commercial films including World Trade Center in 2006 she gained greater recognition when she played Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). The film was nominated in the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress due to her part as Rachel Dawes in Crazy Heart, (2009). In the following years, she appeared in dramatics and comedies: Nanny McPhee as well as the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) and Will Not Back Down (2012). Her other roles include an agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013), a Secret Service agent in the action thriller White House Down (2013) a musician in the film Frank (2014) and The title role in the film The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal's debut as a writer and director came in 2021 when she wrote The Lost Daughter, a psycho-drama for which she received an award at the Venice International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award. The film also was awarded the Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
